I am a mom of five kids in Connecticut, my youngest is a girl who is six. She loves to be active and do things outside.
Now that the weather is warm, we are outside for at least a few hours most days. Today we took our bikes and rode to a local park. My daughter brought a backpack filled with things she might like to play with there. There is a playground with swings, slides and climbing gyms at this park. There are also areas of grass and trees.
After we got to the park my daughter decided she wanted to play treasure hunt. She had brought a little draw string bag filled with plastic gems and “pirate treasure” coins. We took turns making maps and hiding the treasures for each other. She really enjoys playing games that use imagination and pretend play. This kept us occupied for a long time.
Then she decided she wanted to use the playground equipment. I pushed her on the swings, and watched her create an obstacle course for herself to go through. After a while she decided she was done and we rode back home. When we got home we had a “tea party”.
My daughter does not actually like tea, so for our tea parties we use lemonade instead. We searched the kitchen to find small snacks that we could make fancy. Today we made some bowls of fruit, little sandwiches, and cheese and cracker trays. We set up a picnic blanket on the living room floor, and had our snacks.
After we were finished we cleaned up and did the dishes together. I really enjoy playing with my daughter. All her older siblings are teenagers now, and I know how fast these young years go. I treasure these times and will continue to play with her as long as she will let me!
