We went out in our backyard because the temperature was very hot but it was getting ready to rain and I promised the boys we would play in the rain as long as there was no lightening. So we went outside in our swimsuits and waited for the rain. While we were waiting we watched the CT sky and made up animal images out of the clouds.
Finally, it started to sprinkle and then the downpour came. We stood out in the middle of the yard and let the rain cool our skin. Soon after it began to pour down large drops of rain and that is when the real fun began. My 6 year old and 4 year old began running and squealing with delight as the rain came down and starting getting them very wet.
We looked for puddles on the dips in the yard and stomped our feet in them splashing water up onto our legs. The boys were laughing and squealing non-stop. I too was laughing and running around like a child. My six year old ran across the yard and slid by accident in a muddy spot and fell right into it.
At first he looked startled and then he began realizing the humor of the situation with him covered in Connecticut mud. We all laughed so hard we could hardly breathe. It was a very fun and entertaining way to spend the early afternoon.
Finally, the rain slowed down after about ten minutes. We squirted the mud off with the garden hose and then decided it was time to dry off and come inside for a snack. These are the kind of memories and fun I want my boys to cherish and hold throughout their life. One day they will have these kinds of memories with their own children.
There’s no more rain in the forecast currently but I’m sure that it will rain again soon. It is summer after all!
